Wahl hatte sich das Domkapitel mehrheitlich für den Kölner Erzbischof Konrad von Hochstaden entschieden; der fand aber weder die Zustimmung des Papstes noch die von Gegen-König Wilhelm von Holland, der zu dieser Zeit in Mainz weilte. In der 2. Wahl einigte man sich dann auf \"Christian II.\"; er erhielt 1249 die Bischofs-Weihe und 1250 das Pallium. Schon 1251 wurde er, evtl. auf eigenen Wunsch, seines Amtes entbunden; er starb 2 Jahre später in Paris.
