Mitgliedschaft im Academischen Turnverein; nach Ableistung des Militärdienstes 1850 als Einjährig-Freiwilliger Fortsetzung des Studiums in Berlin (Promotion 1854); erste Lehrtätigkeit in Schulpforta; 1860 Wechsel als Dozent an die Central-Turnanstalt in Berlin und Heirat mit Sophie Tischer; 1870 Ernennung zum Professor; 1877 Unterrichtsdirigent an der zwischenzeitlich umbenannte Turnlehrerbildungsanstalt; 1892 Ernennung zum Schulrat; erteilte auch selbst Unterricht an Schulen und für Lehrkräfte; etablierte gegen Widerstände das Geräteturnen im Sportunterricht an den Schulen; Förderer des Schwimmunterrichts; zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen." ],
