Vermutlich hatte sein Vater nach Briedel geheiratet, da Johannes R. einerseits als Neffe (nepos) des Nikolaus von Kues bezeichnet, andererseits aber auch seine Herkunft \"von Briedel\" betont. - J.R. war zunächst Kanonikus und Scholaster an St. Florin in Koblenz. Am 6.8.1464 wurde er im Testament seines Onkels zum ersten Rektor des Hospitals von Kues bestimmt.
