Er war 1843/44 Präsident des Mainzer Carneval-Vereins; 1847 Stadtverordneter und MdL. Während der März-Revolution 1848 war er Oberst der \"Mainzer Bürgerwehr\". Wg. seiner Teilnahme an den Kämpfen in Kirchheimbolanden musste er sich in die Schweiz bzw. die USA absetzen. 1849 wurde er in Abwesenheit zum Tode verurteilt, aber 1850 wieder freigesprochen. Besuchsweise kam er 1866 noch einmal nach Mainz; er lebte in Darmstadt und ab 1873 in München.
