Anschließend war er Zeit in Edenkoben und Landau in der Pfalz. Ab 1807 wohnte Schulz in Mainz. Dort trat er der von Nikolaus Müller begründeten Zeichnungsakademie bei. Schulz war auf der öffentlichen Kunstausstellung in Mainz 1823 mit seinem Gemälde „Das ehemalige Kaufhaus auf dem Brand“ vertreten. 1826 war er dort mit seinem Ölgemälde „Der Taucher“ vertreten. " ],
