Er war Sohn von Johann Carl Gustav Brauneck und Felicitas Francisca geb. Bühler. Am 9. November 1864 heiratete August Brauneck in Mainz Caroline Elisabeth Lothary (geb. 26.08.1838 in Mainz, gestorben 8.11.1929 USA). Aus der Ehe stammten der Sohn Joseph Gustav Adolph (1866-1943), ebenfalls Photograph und Karoline Auguste Elisabeth (1872-). \"August Brauneck erlernte in den 1850er Jahren an unbekannter Stelle das Photographenhandwerk, womöglich in Mainz oder Darmstadt.\" Mit 26 Jahren war er als Lithograph in München tätig. 1862 eröffnete er das Atelier \"Photographische Anstalt von August Brauneck\" in Worms. 1863 zog Brauneck wieder nach Mainz, wo er in der Quintinsstraße 7 als Photograph tätig war. Nach Jahren mit dem Geschäftspartner Anton Maier leitete er ab 1880 in Mainz die \"Kunstanstalt für Photographie und Lichtdruck\".\n1884 wanderte er in die USA aus. Auch in New York führte er ab 1886 ein eigenes Atelier. Am 28.10.1907 starb August Brauneck in Manhattan." ],
